MERULA OLIVE OILS LAUNCHED IN US

Merula is launching its extra virgin olive oil, which is grown, produced, and bottled on their estate, Perales de Valdueza, in Mérida, Spain. Merula uses four olive varieties: Arbequina, Hojiblanca, Picual, and Morisca. This last variety is grown only in a few parts of Extremadura and was nearly extinct when the Marqués de Valdueza and his advisor, the well-known oleologue Dr. Cristino Lobillo, decided to recuperate it as a fundamental element of the blends produced on the estate. In January 2007, the Córdoba olive oil tasting panel, recognised by the International Olive Oil Council, gave Merula a score of 8.2 out of 9 possible points.
